Checklist

A checklist should show what must be decided, who owns the work, what evidence is required and which items block progress. It becomes valuable when incomplete or uncertain items are visible to management rather than marked complete through administrative convenience.

Turning Checklists into Accountable Review

01

Choose the decision or handover point

Build the checklist around a specific gate such as market test, registration, launch, first shipment or operational handover.

Checklist scope: Project / Gate / Decision owner / Date / Exclusions

02

Define evidence for completion

Each material item should state what proves completion and who reviews it. “Discussed” and “in progress” are not equivalent to an approved result.

Completion rule: Item / Evidence / Owner / Reviewer / Status

From Task List to Approval Record

03

Separate blockers from follow-up

Classify items by consequence so management can distinguish conditions that prevent progress from work that may close later.

Status rule: Blocker / Condition / Follow-up / Accepted exception

04

Close with an accountable record

Record open issues, accepted exceptions, due dates and the person authorising the next step. Preserve the version used for the decision.

Gate record: Open item / Risk / Owner / Due date / Approver

How to Use the China Business Checklist Hub

Use Guide to frame the work, Comparison and Review to test alternatives and risk, and FAQ and Resources to prepare the working file. Tool and Case support the management recommendation; News confirms whether the underlying assumptions remain current.

Management should approve the checklist scope and blocker rules at the start of work. At the gate, open items and exceptions should be signed off explicitly rather than disappearing into a completed percentage.
